Hi, I’m Randy Gunter, a partner in the Sugar River Trading Company and the head of Sugar River Marketing. For years I ran the Gunter Agency*, an advertising agency based in the Madison, Wisconsin area.
Some of the companies that GA worked on national and international projects and programs include:
Kimberly-Clark Company (Huggies®, Pull-ups®), Rayovac (batteries, flashlights), OshKosh B’Gosh (clothing), Firestone (auto repair), Kraft (Lunchables®), John Deere (recruiting), Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board (Wisconsin cheese), Charter Business (internet, phone), and others.
The agency has a long history of helping big brands, as well as many smaller companies, raise their sales and profits while building their brand image. Over the years I’ve said to myself, boy I’m helping these companies make a lot of money, perhaps I should do that for myself…
(*The Gunter Agency still exists as a marketing consultancy to non-manufacturing businesses.)
Last year, we had the opportunity to become the exclusive licensee of McNess Home Products. This means taking over the manufacturing, marketing, sales, warehousing, distribution, shipping, etc. Obviously whenever you take over an operation like that, there is some time needed to get things organized. Within a year we have seen substantial sales increases.
We are now talking to other manufacturing companies that need some marketing help, but also may need some other elements that Sugar River Trading can offer: warehousing, distribution, sales, etc., We’ve created a hybrid company, one that can offer marketing help and at the same time offer sales and distribution of some products.
With some of these companies we are developing a profit sharing profile, where we get paid as we grow sales, instead of the traditional pay for services approach. (These are custom programs developed individually. Companies can pay us like a traditional advertising agency if they like.)
